When I was in ASDA last week I walked past the music section and noticed a bin of sale CDs. Attracted by Coldplay's latest single for 97p, I had a closer look. I did not quite believe what I saw next...

The new Harry Potter is launched at 00.01am tonight. Something about a Half-Blood Prince?

I started reading one once, just to see what all the fuss was about. Gave up after 30 pages or so ... did nothing for me!

Island Games

After the excitement and joy of London winning the race to host the 2012 Olympics, today saw the agony and disappointment after Anglesey missed out on the 2009 Island Games.

In a two-horse race, Anglesey lost out to Aland of Finland.

Gareth Winston Roberts, who holds the Anglesey Council's economic development portfolio, said: "Securing the Island Games for Ynys Môn (Welsh for Anglesey) was as important for us, as London winning its bid to host the 2012 Olympics.

I'm gutted ;)

Someone pointed out to me this evening that the words LISTEN and SILENT have the same letters. So what? Well, we should listen to God, which means we must be silent and allow God to speak. We must resist the temptation to talk!

I also figured that TINSEL is an anagram of those two words. So I guess that must mean that listening is for life, not just for Christmas!

Live8 Concert

Live8 has been a great concert. There's a thought-provoking Christian song that begins with the words:

"When the music fades, all is stripped away, and I simply come..."

It refers to how a Christian should be with God even when the wave of emotion associated with mass music dies down.

I hope the same can be said for all who've been at / listened to Live8. When the music fades, will we simply do our bit through our everyday, mundane lives?

That's what matters for Africa's sake ... or we'll be back again in 2025.

Christian Voice

The Co-operative Bank recently closed the account of Christian Voice. The bank's latest statement explains why this decision was taken, and despite Christian voice's press release on the issue, I'm with the bank. Why? Because Christian Voice has some rather extremist views that do not sit comfortably with my understanding of the Christian faith.

As a Co-op / smile customer I was keen to find out 'who was right' in this argument, and am pleased to say that I will be sticking with my bank and distancing myself from Christian Voice.

There's so much stuff on G8 in the media at the mo - including info on the Make Poverty History campaign, Live8 gigs and the Vote for Trade Justice movement.

I do hope churches are at the forefront of those putting pressure on world leaders to bring about change - and, more importantly, that we Christians as individuals don't just wear a white band but actually live the life God calls us to.

Good to see Christian organisations thoroughly involved such as Tearfund and Christian Ai d. Both sites have loads of info, resources, guidance etc.

Make the most of this opportunity!

Just watched the Panorama prog on maternal deaths in Chad. Left me feeling angry and heartbroken. I hope G8 does make an impact this summer, but I increasingly feel that actuaaly if every individual understood and cared that bit more and adjusted their lifestyle (spending choices etc) accordingly, we could collectively do much more for our brothers and sisters in Africa than could the G8 leaders.

American Office

I watched the American version of The Office last night, not expecting it to be as funny as the original. However, it was really funny and this was my fave moment:

Michael (the American 'David Brent') was running a 'Diversity Day' for the office. During one activity, he stucka post-it note on everyone's head that had the name of a race on it. Staff then had to react 'stereotypically' towards each other as they moved around the room according to the race on the other person's head. Anyhow...

During Michael's debrief to the cameras, he explained that he hadn't put 'Arab' on anyone's head as "that would have been too explosive" !! He then added that "there was no pun intended". Further still, he commented that the staff weren't ready for Arabs yet, but he might add them in next year!!

Fantastic, The Office at its best, with a clear American twist. Catch it on BBC Three.

The First Post

Well here it is. The very first post on my Glob Glog Blog. Will anyone read it? Does anyone care? I guess if it helps me to get things out of my system, off my chest, off my mind ... then that's good for me, even if my ramblings are never seen by anyone else!

I intend to post my views on all sorts of things in life, but some particular issues close to my heart that I'm bound to comment on include:
